Titanium Grade 2 foil (thickness typically <0.5mm) is the most widely used "commercially pure" titanium foil due to its ideal balance of moderate strength, high ductility, and extreme corrosion resistance.
Because it forms a permanent, self-healing oxide layer, it is nearly indestructible in saltwater and various chemical environments, making it a "fit and forget" material for technical industries.
1. Chemical Processing & Industrial
Grade 2 foil is the primary choice for lining equipment that handles aggressive fluids.
Corrosion Barriers: Used as a thin lining for pressure vessels, reactors, and storage tanks to protect the outer steel structure from corrosive chemicals like nitric acid, moist chlorine, and organic acids.
Heat Exchangers: Its thermal stability and resistance to pitting make it a standard material for the thin plates and gaskets in plate-frame heat exchangers.
Electroplating: Used for cathodes, starter-sheet blanks, and anode baskets in metal finishing and recovery processes.
2. Aerospace & Aviation
While Grade 5 is used for structural bolts, Grade 2 foil is used in "warm" areas and fluid systems.
Hydraulic & Fuel Systems: Used to manufacture thin-walled conduits and fuel tank linings that must be lightweight and resistant to vibration fatigue.
Heat Shields & Ductwork: Its ability to withstand temperatures up to 425°C (800°F) makes it ideal for engine shielding, firewalls, and air-conditioning ducts.
Honeycomb Structures: Corrugated Grade 2 foil is bonded between titanium sheets to create ultra-lightweight, high-stiffness sandwich panels for fuselage skins.
3. Energy & Renewable Tech
Hydrogen Fuel Cells: Titanium foil is a critical substrate for bipolar plates. It is often coated with noble metals (like Gold or Platinum) to provide high electrical conductivity while surviving the acidic environment inside the cell.

Battery Technology: Used as a current collector or substrate in high-performance lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries due to its chemical stability and low weight.
Nuclear Power: Employed in steam generators and radioactive waste containers due to its long-term durability and resistance to stress-corrosion cracking (SCC).
