Titanium **MMO (Mixed Metal Oxide)** anodes are categorized as **Dimensionally Stable Anodes (DSA)** because the titanium substrate does not consume or change shape during the electrochemical process. The "magic" happens in the thin layer of noble metal oxides (typically Iridium or Ruthenium) thermally bonded to the surface.

The titanium substrate naturally forms a stable, protective oxide film. This allows the anode to operate in highly aggressive environments, including:

* **High-Chlorine Environments:** Resisting the corrosive effects of salt and bleach.
* **Acidic Conditions:** Particularly iridium-based coatings that survive in low-pH electrolytes.

### Technical Limitations

* **Voltage Sensitivity:** The "breakdown voltage" of the titanium substrate is roughly **8V to 10V** in saltwater. If the voltage exceeds this limit without proper coating protection, the titanium itself may begin to pit.
* **Coating Fragility:** While the titanium is tough, the MMO coating is a ceramic-like layer. If it is scratched or chipped, the efficiency of the anode drops at that specific point.
