Grade 3 Titanium is a "commercially pure" grade that offers higher mechanical strength than Grade 1 or 2 while maintaining excellent corrosion resistance and good cold formability. Because it strikes a balance between strength and ductility, Grade 3 round bars are typically found in demanding industrial and medical environments.
Primary Applications
-
Chemical Processing: Due to its resistance to highly oxidizing and mildly reducing environments, Grade 3 is widely used for valve bodies, fasteners, and manifold components in chemical plants.
-
Marine Engineering: It is a staple for boat propeller shafts, underwater housings, and desalination plant components because it is virtually immune to corrosion from salt water and chlorides.
-
Medical & Healthcare: Grade 3 is highly biocompatible. It is commonly used for medical implants, surgical instruments, and dental posts where the body will not reject the material.
-
Aerospace Components: While not used for high-stress structural parts (where Grade 5 is preferred), it is used for airframe components and hydraulic systems that require a high strength-to-weight ratio and corrosion protection.
-
Power Generation: Used in condenser tubing and heat exchanger headers, especially in facilities using brackish or highly mineralized cooling water.
